|Southwinds Cabin - 1576 Vancouver Blvd. - Savary Island|
The cabin is ideal for a couple or a family up to a max of 4 people.
Southwinds is located on the South facing cliffbank with spectacular views of Courtney/Comox to the West and of Powell River to the East. The cabin is on two lots with a government lot on one side to make your stay more private (the shower is located on this side, outdoors). Situated mid island, between Henderson Rd and Cunningham Rd. The North beach is accessed in less than 10 minutes or a short stroll ( also 10 min) to the Sutherland Beach access on the South side. To walk back to the government wharf would take approx. 50 min.
ABOUT THE CABIN
The cabin has two bedrooms located on the second floor (1 queen and twin beds). Pillows and comforters are provided but please bring with you, sheets (or sleeping bags)and pillowcases. You will also need to bring bath towels and beach towels. There is one bathroom with a bathtub located on the main floor and you're back to nature with an outdoor shower and flush toilet.
The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, cutlery, dishes and your basic kitchen supplies. Two tea towels and two dish cloths are provided. There is a propane stove with an oven and broiler, and a propane fridge with small freezer. As well, there is a second bar fridge and small freezer. For your convenience, there is a propane BBQ on the deck that makes outdoor cooking a pleasure.
The cabin is on drinkable well water and a septic system so please use the water sparingly. The cabin runs off solar panels (charges the deep cycle batteries) but a gas generator is used to pump the well water once per day.
A phone has been provided as well as a radio/cd player. Some CD's and board games are also available.
NO SMOKING / NO PETS due to family allergies.
Biking to and from beaches, wharf and trails is a much-enjoyed pastime with little or relatively slow traffic on major roads. The main road is graveled and secondary roads are sandy, with the odd bit of gravel.
There is usually some island activity happening. Fire Hall frolics, the Triathlon in July, Sports day in August, dances, and sandcastle contests – these events are usually well posted on island.
I have provided four adult 'island' bikes and two childrens bikes as well as a kids 'chariot' for two or bring your own bikes and kayaks to explore on and around the island. Please bring your own helmets.
I have a mooring buoy located near the wharf if you plan on bringing your own boat and tender.
Although there is a store and a restaurant on the island this summer (2016), we suggest you bring with you an ample supply of your favorite foods and beverages. The Lund store also sells most items (liquor as well)if you haven’t purchased these prior to arriving in Lund. A reminder that Fishing Licenses are needed for the possession of shellfish.
In case of emergency, call 911. We have an excellent First Responder team. Our Volunteer Fire Department is also reached by calling 911 and we ask that extreme caution be used in lighting fires, using matches, candles and smoking cigarettes. In extreme heat conditions there is a total fire ban on island. Signs will be posted if this is the case.
There is very limited retail services available on the island.
- Rigger’s store (Ecosentials)
- Riggers restaurant
- Lund Water and Land Taxi 604-483-9749
- Bike shop (Mike) 604-483-7771
